Grocery Haul: Trader Joes!!

February 7, 2013 By Cindy Ford 2 Comments

Good  afternoon!  I thought it would be fun to show you the food that I buy in a typical week.  If you aren’t vegan, you may wonder what vegans eat.  For my family, I don’t typically buy processed veggie meat products.  I think they’re pretty expensive, and not the healthiest source of protein.  However, every now and then, I’ll buy veggie dogs or nuggets, because they are tasty and easy.

A lot of the items that I bought are staples for my family, and I buy them every week at Trader Joes.  I feel fortunate to have a Trader Joes within 20 minutes from my house.  However, to get all of the food that I need for my family, I usually also shop at Kroger and a natural food store.

One of the biggest reasons that I like about shopping at Trader Joes is that I can buy organic produce for a reasonable price.  For example, their organic carrots are less than a dollar for a one pound bag and a bag or apples is less than $3.  So, pictured below is:  organic romaine, organic apples, organic carrots, organic lemons, cauliflower, sweet potato, a large onion, a pomegranate, a green pepper, and limes.

Below are more of our staples.  However, I must admit that the polenta is new.  I generally make it from scratch, instead of using a tube.  We had a tube that I let expire, so I’m excited to actually use it.  I’m still not sure what to do with it. So, if you have any suggestions, please leave me a comment below.  Anyways, the items below include:  steel cut oats, marinara sauce, black beans, garbanzo beans, polenta, tofu (1 block is missing, because Penny and I had tofu scramble), smoked paprika, tempeh, and fire roasted tortillas.

The items below include some of our favorite pantry items.  What can I say, but I love their chocolate chips.  They are dairy-free and priced reasonably.  Also, raw cashews are such a staple at our house.  We use them to make so many creamy delicious foods and drinks.  You can use them to make cheese sauce for nachos, a creamy sauce for pasta, or even to make milkshakes!  Anyways, the items below include: tortilla chips (these are my favorite kind), wheat crackers (taste like Wheat Thins, only better), peanut butter crackers, artisan bread, hot dog buns (I meant to buy burger buns for homemade veggie burgers!!! Doh!), whole wheat spaghetti, chocolate chips, raisins, and raw cashews.

The last two items were items that were just for me.  What I love about Trader Joes personal care items is that they are reasonably priced and cruelty-free (cruelty-free is a must!).  The little yellow tube is shea butter hand cream.  It’s a nice travel size perfect to store in your purse or car.  The other bottle is a facial moisturizer.  Moisturizers are a must!  I’ve been using them since I was about 13.  However, I keep switching brands.  I’ve yet to find the perfect one, so maybe this will be it!

Hope you enjoyed this!  If you like this kind of post, let me know and I’ll do another one.
